Speed:15 cartons per minute
Control System:
Beckhoff Automation
SMC Pneumatics
Construction:304 Stainless Steel

Packing cell incorporating a flat blank top load carton erector, product feed conveyors to a manual pack conveyor and a three flap carton glue closer.

The carton erector plucks a flat blank from the magazine, the blank is then transferred past twin glue gun applicators and then punched through a tool set to form the three flap carton. The carton is then conveyed to the manual packing station, the product is conveyed from two vertical form fill seal machines and delivered at an ergonomical height for the operator to pick and place into the carton. The filled carton enters a three flap sealer where the major flap of the lid has glue applied.  The carton is then sideshifted to allow glue to be applied to the two side flaps and placed into a compression tool before being ejected from the machine.

How RML’s machinery delivered results for a leading niche food manufacturing company

“From start to finish, working with RML was such an easy process. We came to RML because we wanted to automate our labour intensive packing line.  We also wanted to work with a New Zealand manufacturing company".

“Our site is based in Nelson and despite the distance with RML in Hamilton, the process was seamless. Initially their team flew down and worked with us onsite so they could really get to know our factory and capabilities.  We were able to communicate back and forth remotely with their design team. They came up with comprehensive concepts and 3D designs that we could manoeuvre and rotate in order to understand every aspect of the machinery.”

They built everything in-house at their factory and it was all fully tested with both packaging and product at their site.  We really appreciated the fact that our engineers could see the machine up and running before signing off.”

“When it came to commissioning, the RML team went above and beyond.  The engineers that flew down, their service was exceptional, and they made sure our team knew everything they needed to operate the machinery.  They were willing to work through the weekend so we could get running as fast as possible – we had sold 3 months of product in 3 weeks so the pressure was on.   Now, I can feel confident that our operators are fully trained and up to speed with the machinery they are operating.”

“After just four days onsite, their engineering team had the machine up and running. Since it’s been operating, it’s been excellent and has met the high demand and has been running consistently.  I’ve worked in this industry for a long time and I can’t remember such an easy installation, commissioning and training process for new machinery. It's significantly improved our production and reduced our labour costs.”
